Grace E. Young

Grace Ellen (Marshall) Young, 92, passed peacefully asleep at Pickering House Wednesday, December 6, 2023. 

Grace was raised on the vast Marshall family truck farm in Findley, Ohio. At 15, she came to Amanda to work for her brother-in-law, Dr. Frances C. "Doc" Ayers at his thriving small town and country practice, during which she graduated Amanda Clearcreek H.S. and attended Ohio State University Nursing School.

Grace married husband, Joe Young, of Amanda in 1952. She later attended Ohio University for her teaching credentials and worked at Amanda Clearcreek Elementary with an emphasis on her passion: Teaching children with learning challenges how to read. Grace specialized in and created the first remedial reading program for the Amanda schools. She herself was an avid reader during her long life and was very proud to work with her young Amanda students.

Whether on river or sea at her beloved Snowbird dwelling in Crystal River, Florida, or on the beautiful waterways of home near Amanda, Grace spent her happiest times in her favorite pursuit, fishing and boating with family and friends. 

Grace is survived by her children Sarah (Shawn Hall), Eric (Laura Holton), Edward and Joe (Debbie Berry) Young; grandchildren Siara (Bryant) Kopis and Dr. Michael (Dr. Hannah Weinberg) Young; and great grandchildren Kohl and Khloe Kopis. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Frederick Young (1924-1998); by her mother Pearl Patrick and father Greeley Marshall of Kentucky, then Findley; and her 11 brothers and sisters: Junior and Jack Marshall, Helen and Vedna Walter, Claudia Franz, Rebecca Ayers, Fran Thomas, Irene Lewis, Florence Martilliti, Faye Nemith, and Gerry Kaluza.

There will be an announcement for a celebration of life at a future date.
