Glenn Cope

Glenn W. Cope, age 91, of Lancaster, peacefully passed away at the Pickering House on June 22nd, 2015. His family’s love surrounded him as he left this life. He was born on October 1st, 1923 to in East Fairfield, OH to the late, Alva and Ethel Henning Cope.
He graduated from East Fairfield High School in 1941 and enrolled in the Ohio State University. His education was interrupted by WWII. He served his country for 3 years as a forward observer in the 264th Artillery Group in the European Theater participating in many battles including the Battle of the Bulge.
After the war, he returned to Ohio State and completed his education graduating in 1949 with a degree in Animal Science. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Sigma fraternity there and attended yearly gatherings with his “brothers” for 60 years.
Glenn married Martha (Pat) Patchen in 1949. Together they had five children: Christine (Ron) Burris, and Curtis (Laura) Cope of Lancaster, Constance (Mark) Fasana of McMinnville, OR, Carol (David) Salmons, of Galveston, IN and Glenn, Jr. (Kim) Cope who preceded him in death. He leaves behind a large and growing extended family with 9 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
Glenn worked for Producers Livestock Association for 40 years managing markets in Cleveland, Findley, and Bucyrus. Upon retiring, he and Pat moved to Lancaster where they built their much loved home on Bauman Hill Road.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Curtis Cope, son-in-law Hugh Webb, and son, Glenn Cope Jr. He leaves behind, his sister, Miriam Cope Bable, sister-in-law, Marjorie Umstead Cope, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Glenn was a family man who took great pleasure in his ever growing family. He loved to play golf at Valley View, where he was a member, and with his friends in Columbus at Black Hawk. He was a lover of games, and enjoyed playing bridge with his Lancaster Men’s Bridge group. He enjoyed watching OSU football and in former years, the Cleveland Browns. He was happy mowing his acres at the “Last Resort,” his home in the country.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lancaster, where a Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 27th at 11:00AM, officiated by Rev. Cheryl Foulk. Visitation with the family will take place an hour prior to the service. Caring Cremation® has taken place through the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Glenn’s name may be made to either, the First United Methodist Church, 163 East Wheeling St. Lancaster, OH 43130 or to the FairHoPe Hospice, 282 Sells Rd. Lancaster, OH 43130.
