GEORGE UTLEY

George Reese Utley, age 91, of Lancaster, passed away Monday, February 13th, 2012. He was born in Milwaukee, WI on Dec. 4, 1920 to his parents George and Edna Reese Utley. He was a 1940, OSU graduate where he was in the Sigma Chi fraternity and a life member of the OSU Alumni Association. Upon graduation he joined his father’s shoe factory, The Drew Shoe Corporation and Import Affiliate. George served as President and Chairman from 1969 to 1982. Upon retirement, he stepped up to Chairman and Consultant. . He was a former director of both the Fairfield National Bank and Footwear Industries of America. He was a member of the Lancaster Rotary program and is a Paul Harris fellow. He is a member of St John’s Episcopal Church where he was a former Vestery member. He also was one of the founding purchasers of the Georgian.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Winter Utley of Lancaster; daughter, Frances (Frank) Shyjka of Bexley; grandchildren, Kathleen (Mike) Russo of Bexley; Elisabeth (Robert Jr.) Baute of Cranston, RI, Dudley (Laurel) Simmons of Austin, TX, Alexandria (John) Simmons-Klitch of Dallas, TX, Andrea (Brett) Shyjka-Coolidge of Chicago; seven great grandchildren; and sister, Francis (Harold) Schuyler of Ft. Meyers, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and daughter, Candace Simmons.
A service will take place at the Utley residence, in Lancaster, at 10:30AM on Friday, officiated by Rev. G. William Pursley. Burial will follow the service at Forest Rose Cemetery. Family and friends may call Thursday at The Utley Residence from 2PM until 4PM. Arrangements have been made through the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME in Lancaster.
