George Sherman “Bud” Mowery lost his courageous battle with cancer on January 13, 2024. Bud was born on March 3, 1934, and was a lifelong resident of Lancaster.
He is survived by his wife and life companion of 70 years, Barbara; children, Melinda (Pat Elliot) McCandlish of Lancaster, LuAnne (Jon) Shaeffer of Zanesville, and Jeff (Colleen) Mowery of Pickerington; five grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil J. and Verna “Ruby” Mowery; siblings, Patricia Baker and Ralph “Emil” Mowery; and son-in-law, Bruce McCandlish.
Bud was a lifelong member of Grace United Church of Christ where he served many years on the church board and sang in the choir for 65 years. Bud retired from Diamond Power in 1991, where he and Barbara then opened their own business, Buckeye Buildings of Lancaster, on Memorial Drive. Bud had a beautiful strong baritone voice and sang in the Lancaster Men’s Chorus for 25 years. For 20+ years Bud and Barb enjoyed being “snowbirds” in the Port Charlotte, Florida area.
Caring Cremation® has taken place, and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at 12:00 PM at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME. Interment will follow in Greenfield Twp. Cemetery. Family and friends may visit from 10:30 AM until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace United Church of Christ Memorial Fund, 1185 Pleasantville Rd., Lancaster, OH 43130.
