George William “Bill” Daubenmire of Lancaster passed away Sunday, June 13 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio
He was born October 13, 1927, at home, in Lancaster, Ohio to the late Ernest H. and Mildred G. Manning Daubenmire. Bill graduated from Lancaster High School in 1946 and served in the Marine Corp from 1946 to 1948.
On September 14, 1952, he married Ruth I. Rider of Rockbridge who preceded him in death on June 23, 2003.
Bill was employed by Anchor Hocking Corp as a mold maker for 42 years retiring in 1989. He was a life time member of the American Flint Glass Workers. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a 70 year member of all Lancaster Masonic Bodies as well as Tarhe and Aladdin Temple Shrine, a member of the American Legion Post #11 and Olivedale Senior Citizens. He was a also a member of his Panera Coffee group that met daily to solve the world’s problems until the Pandemic hit.
Bill was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed playing golf and cheering on his Buckeyes, Reds and Browns. He had enjoyed gardening, both his flowers and vegetables which he enjoyed giving away to neighbors and family. He loved to travel and was especially proud of his having been able to visit all 50 States. A favorite memory was his trip to Washington DC on an Honor Flight.
He is survived by daughter Cindy Daubenmire (George) Wagner and son Bryan Daubenmire (Jennifer Carson) both of Lancaster. He had 3 grandchildren; brother James E. Daubenmire of Lancaster; sister-in-law, Sue Parsons of Guysville, OH; many nieces and nephews and his special “lady friend” Alice Morse.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, June 25, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at The First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Brian Jones officiating. Caring Cremation® has taken place by the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130. Friends may visit 1 hour prior to the service at the church in the Parlor. Inurnment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Lancaster, Ohio. The Masonic Lodge and the Lancaster Veterans Burial Detail will conduct services at the cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children 3229 Burnet Ave. Cincinnati, OH 45229-3095.
