Gary Wendell Stamm, age 80, of Baltimore, Ohio, passed away on Friday, October 12th, 2018 at The Pickering House following an extended illness. Born June 18, 1938 in Basil, Ohio, the son of Jacob and Verna (Poff) Stamm. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Stamm.

Gary is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara (Fisher) Stamm; son, Erick (Dottie) Stamm; daughter, Greta (Ted) Talbot; grandchildren, Ian and Leeanna Stamm and Amanda, Madeline and Ryan Talbot; aunt, Esther Zellers; sister-in-law, Joan Stamm; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Howard (Bud) and Ginger Fisher. He also leaves behind many nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.

Gary graduated from Cadiz High School in 1956 and The Ohio State University in 1960. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education and was a proud member of The Ohio State marching and concert bands. Gary fondly recalled his experiences with the marching band, especially his trip by train to the 1958 Rose Bowl in California. Following graduation, he served as an instrumental music director for the Mariemont City Schools, Ohio. He later went on to receive a Master’s Degree in School Administration and a Doctorate in Education, both from the University of Cincinnati. Gary began his many years in educational administration as an assistant principal and principal for Mariemont City Schools. He served as superintendent of schools for Lockland Local Schools, Belpre City Schools, and Fairless Local Schools, all in Ohio. He finished his career back in his hometown of Baltimore as principal of Liberty Union High School. Gary was a member of the Lancaster Presbyterian Church, where he loved singing in the choir. He enjoyed family vacations at the beach, walking, music, reading, & caring for the goats & llama on the family farm.

Gary’s family would like to thank the dedicated and compassionate health care providers at Fairfield Medical Center & The Pickering House.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 17th at 11:00 am at the church where Gary was baptized & married, Trinity United Church of Christ, 105 N. High St, Baltimore, Ohio 43105. The Reverend Jill Dunlap & the Reverend Melodie Rezac will officiate. Burial will follow in Basil Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 16th from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Johnson-Smith Funeral Home, 207 S. Main St, Baltimore, Ohio 43105 & one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to FairHoPe Hospice and Palliative Care (Pickering House), 282 Sells rd, Lancaster, Ohio 43130 and/or The Foundation Dinners, 1000 W. Fifth Ave, Lancaster, Ohio 43130.
