Gary Amel Gerken, age 86, of Grove City Ohio passed away at Doctors Hospital on January 10th, 2021. Gary was born to the late Fred and Freida (Shromme) Gerken on January 4th, 1935 in Lancaster Ohio. Gary graduated from LHS, class of '53. After graduation Gary went on to study at OU and played for the Bobcats. Gary also studied at Otterbein University and played football there as well. Gary was the number one Buckeye fan and never missed an Ohio State game. Gary valiantly served in the armed forces for over 35 years. Gary started his military career in the Army and then moved on and served for the Air Force. Due to Gary's heroic service, he was awarded the Bronze Star and would go on to work for the Department of Defense. Gary was also an avid supported of the Disabled American Veterans. Gary will be missed by family, friends and the country he so honorably served.
Gary is survived by his son, Fred Gerken; daughter, Helen (Mark) Jones; grandchildren, Jaxon, Garry, Margo (Matt) Peters, Andrew and Lily; great grandchildren; Seth, Mason; brother, George (Connie) Gerken; several nieces and nephews
Gary is preceded in death by his wife, Gerri Gerken; parents; sisters, Phillys Waits, Wanda Block.
A graveside service with veteran honors will take place on Friday, January 15th at 1 PM at Maple Grove Cemetery in Lancaster, with one hour of visitation prior. Online condolences can be made at www.funeralhome.com
