Gary “Doc” K. Docter, 70, of Thornville, Ohio died at 5:45PM., January 15, 2016 at his home.
He was born August 28, 1945 in Lancaster, Ohio to Robert and Frances “Betty” (Barclay) Docter. Mr. Docter is survived by his children, Babette (Greg) Wofter of Zanesville, Garrett Docter of Newark, Nicole (Dan) Long of Columbus, grandchildren, Olivia Wofter, Wyatt Docter, Alyssha Carlock, Adalyn Long, sister, Onilda Price of Burns Flat, Oklahoma; Gary will be missed by his loving companion, Louise Richter and his loyal dogs, Lady and Cletus. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Bonita Crane and sister Carolyn Kiger.
Gary was a 1963 graduate of Lancaster High School and served his country as a marine in the Vietnam War. He owned and operated Alternative Auto and Truck Electric in Thornville, Ohio for many years. He was very patriotic and was active in the 3761 Baltimore VFW, and served as past Commander and Quartermaster. He was proud to march in area parades and serve on funeral detail for his fellow veterans.
Becoming a single father at the age of 31, Gary lived and worked for his children. Whether it be serving as the After-Prom Coordinator, attending a wrestling tournament, or hauling the family to Canada and down the east coast on a camping trip, he lived a full life and enjoyed his kids.
A service will take place on Tuesday at 11AM at the Frank E. Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, 405 N. Columbus St., Lancaster. Viewing hours will be 5:00-8:00 P.M. on Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Gary will be buried beside his beloved first wife, Bonita (Crane) Docter at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Lancaster where the Baltimore Burial Detail will have a commital service.
