Garry A. Boring 72 of Thurston, Ohio passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024 surrounded by his wife and family. He was born on September 10, 1951 in Lancaster, Ohio.
He worked for Kingsford Products in Baltimore, Ohio and then later retired from the State of Ohio Prison System as a Lieutenant. Garry was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Lancaster.
Garry enjoyed computer games, fishing, outings with the grandchildren, trips to the Amish country, genealogy, family gatherings, traveling and antiques. Most of all, spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his work in the Village of Thurston. He was a council member and council president working right alongside of his wife to bring in their own water system for the village. He installed posts at the wellfield, worked with all of the engineers on all the projects. He installed and painted the new doors on the Municipal building and many other tasks to better the village.
Garry is survived by his wife of 16 years, Mary Boring, sons, Eric (Colleen) Boring of Hebron and Terry (Nancy) Boring of Logan; step-daughter, Holly (Joe) Hill of Pleasantville; step-son, Jimmy (Angie) Barber of Thurston; eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Thomas (Joy) Boring, Latitia (Randy) McKinley, Tina Boring, Tammi Boring, John (Autumn) Boring, Andrew (Cheryl) Boring and Craig (Tammy) Boring; brother-in-law, Mike (Wendy) Woods of Reynoldsburg, sisters-in-law, Linda Woods of Logan and Sue Woods of Rushville; many nieces and nephews; best friend and fishing buddy, Vance York and close friend, Don Elkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Vera Boring, grandson, Hunter James Barber and sister-in-law, Rose Wolfe and brother-in-law, Butch Woods.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. in the JOHNSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 207 S. MAIN ST., BALTIMORE, OHIO 43105 with Pastors Roy Maple and Michah Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in Primitive Baptist Cemetery, Thurston, Ohio. Friends may visit Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
