Garner Workman, age 73, of Lancaster, passed away on April 14, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Karen Workman; children, Regina (Craig) Kirkwood, Marvin (Theresa) Workman, and Robin (Daren) Baughman, William (Natalie) Holliday and Christine Winters; grandchildren, Rachel (Marco), Sybil, Zach, Jordan, Drake, Morgan, Sydney, Brandon, Justin, Kyle, Kory and Khloe; great-grandchildren, Grace, Samantha, and Roxanne; and brother, Lovell (Linda) Workman. He was preceded in death by parents Alvin and Sybil; brother, Garcie; and sister, Delores.
Garner was born in Madison, West Virginia in 1941. He served as a Medic in The United States Army and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a former member of the Eastgate Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Aladdin Shrine. He retired after 30 years of service from the City of Columbus, Department of Parks and Recreation as City Forester and Parks Coordinator. He was an avid gardener, hunter, golfer and true outdoorsman.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 18 at 1:30 p.m. at the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home located at 405 North Columbus Street in Lancaster with Pastor Kermit Welty officiating. Reception immediately following at the Society of Sportsmen club. Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
