Franklin B. Melick, 81, of Lancaster, passed away on March 3, 2018 at the Pickering House. Frank was born in Tiffin, Ohio to the late Ernest and Helen Melick on August 20, 1936.
Frank graduated from Heidelberg College and US Army Language School in Monterey California, as a Chinese Linguist. He also attended the Institute of Foreign Studies in San Francisco, the University of Nevada, and Bowling Green State University.
Frank traveled extensively for both business and pleasure. He visited each of the fifty states and many foreign countries. He was a member of the first Ohio Foreign Trade Mission to the Far East, and later another Trade Mission to South and Central American countries. These missions were led by the Governor of Ohio, Jim Rhoads. He was the recipient of several state honorary titles, including, Ohio Commodore, Kentucky Colonel, Kansas Calvary, and Alaskan Walrus.
Frank retired in 2001 from the city of Lancaster, Ohio as Community Development Director. Earlier in his life he also worked as the developer of nursing homes throughout the Eastern and Southern United States, including Autumnwood Care Center in Tiffin, Ohio. He served as City Manager of Clyde, Ohio and as Mayor of Tiffin, Ohio.
Frank was a member of Maple Street United Methodist Church in Lancaster, Ohio where he served as a Lay Speaker and Adult Sunday School teacher. He was also a fifty-year member of The Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joyce Helberg Melick; two daughters, Jennifer Huffman of Mayer, Minnesota, and Angela (Keith) Adkins of Plain City, Ohio; and one Grandson, Kayden Keith Adkins.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Helen Melick of Tiffin, Ohio; and two brothers, Cletus (Willa) Melick of Tiffin, and James (Ladora) Melick of Fort Mohave, Arizona
A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 3 P.M. on March 17, 2018 at the Maple Street United Methodist Church, officiated by Reverend Phyllis Fetzer. Family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frank’s memory to the Maple Street United Methodist Church, or to FairHoPe Hospice.
