Faette Y. Smith, 87, of Lancaster, passed away at her home on December 9, 2021. She was born to the late Ogle and Dorothy Turner in Columbus, OH on June 19, 1934.
Faette was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her most cherished title was “GiGi”. She loved people and didn’t know a stranger. She was a talented artist who enjoyed a variety of outlets: painting, drawing with charcoal, crocheting, making clothes, porcelain dolls, stained glass, and all types of crafts. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church of which she served in many capacities: Sunday School teacher, nursery, office staff, and anywhere needed. The last 27 years she attended Christ United Methodist Church in Baltimore where she was everyone’s favorite greeter and the official “hugger”.
She is survived by her children: Keith (Teri) Smith; Wesley Smith; and Renée (Jeff) Slyh, grandchildren: P.J. Bowen, Christopher Smith, Michael (Tish) Lyons, Andrew (Malinda) Slyh, and Caleb (Kayla) Slyh; eight great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her husband: Emmett James Smith Jr.; son: James Ogle Smith Sr.; grandsons: James Ogle Smith Jr.; Paul Matthew Smith; Wesley Edward Smith; Joshua Todd Slyh; siblings: Wesley Turner, Chuck Turner, and Violet Burchett; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will take place on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Christ United Methodist Church, 700 S Main St, Baltimore, OH 43105 at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Basil Memorial Cemetery. Family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
