Evelyn Notestone

October 22, 1925 — June 8, 2018

Evelyn Rebecca (Johnson) Notestone, 92, of Lancaster, Ohio left this world to be with her maker on Friday, June 8, 2018. She was born on a farm in the Scenic Hocking Hills in South Bloomingville, Ohio on October 22, 1925, to the late Judson J. and Lucille (Hill) Johnson.

She graduated from Benton Rural High School, South Bloomingville, Ohio in 1942. She was employed by Anchor Hocking, Lancaster, Ohio, as a secretary prior to her marriage to T/SGT Edwin L. Notestone who was in the U.S. Air Corp. She was a homemaker until 1965 when she went to work at AT&T, Columbus, Ohio, where she retired after 20 years.

She was a Girl Scout leader, active in room mothers, PTA, Boy Scouts, a member of The Lancaster United Brethren Church in Christ, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 11, Lancaster, Ohio, the Buckeye Lake Eagles Auxiliary, the Gold Star Wives of America, the Rainbow Card Club (40 years), the Gambling Grannies’ Card Club, Rushville Seniors, and Olivedale. She loved reading, crocheting, gardening, sports, Euchre, dancing, and swimming. She will be sadly missed by her family and all who crossed her path.

She is survived by a daughter, Diana (Jeffrey) Hedges of Lancaster; a son, Damon (Lisa) Notestone of Lancaster; seven caring grandchildren, Jamie (Angela) Hedges, Jodi (Peter) Wyman, Michelle (Doug) Notestone Spangler, Michael (Andrea) Notestone II, Shawn (Darcey) Notestone, Chad (Amy) Notestone, and Mindy (fiance, Kevin Carr) Notestone; 16 great grandchildren, Alex White, Esteban Hedges, Gavin Hedges, Daniel and Clara Bernthold, Xavier and Grant Notestone, Lydia and James Notestone, Josh Ward, Matthew, Brad, Julia, Zachery, Rachel, and Jamie Notestone; 4 great great grandchildren; sister, Maxine VanCuren of Laurelville; brother, Ronald Bruce Johnson of South Bloomingville; a special friend, Bob June; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin L. Notestone; son, Michael E. Notestone; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth (Jack) Notestone, Freda (David) Watters, Phyllis Johnson, Helen (Arthur) Pearson, Dale VanCuren, and Ruby Allard; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan (Pauline) Johnson, Judson Jr. Johnson, Darrell (Thelma) Johnson, and Ralph (Peggy) Johnson.

The funeral will be held at the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home in Lancaster on Tuesday at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in Green Summit Cemetery in Adelphi, Ohio. Friends may call on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
