Eugene H. “Gene” McKenzie, age 76, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on July 12th, 2016 at OSU Medical Center. He was born on Oct. 24th, 1939 to the late Charles “Mac”and Florence Palse McKenzie in London, OH. Gene graduated from LHS in 1957 and Ohio University in 1962. He served his country as a Captain in the U.S.A.F from 1962-1967 as an electronics warfare officer on a B-52. Gene retired from Diamond Electronics as an electrical engineer after 40 years. Gene was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Lancaster where he was an Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Olive Dale, and the Fairfield Heritage Association. Gene will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Gayle Campbell McKenzie of Lancaster; sons, Craig (Lisa) McKenzie of Lancaster, Christopher (Suzanne) McKenzie of Ponca City, OK, and Cory McKenzie of Sylvania, OH; grandchildren, Brandon, Ian, Savannah, and Grace McKenzie; step-grandchildren, Jason (Heather) Huck and Sarah Huck; siblings, Don (Helen) McKenzie, Dale McKenzie, and Lou Ann McKenzie; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ed (Carolyn) Campbell, Gary (Kathy) Campbell, Jack Campbell, Steve (Jane) Campbell, James (Kelly) Campbell, Jeane (Jerry) Smutylo, Jodi (Howard) Miller, and Martin (Tammy) Campbell; several nieces and nephews; and four legged companion, Jake.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday July 15th, at 10:30AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. A committal service will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Family and friends may call Thursday July 14th, from 2PM until 4PM and 6PM until 8PM at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME. Memorials can be made in Gene’s name to either, St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 132 St. High St. Lancaster, OH 43130 or to the Fairfield County Humane Society, 1721 Granville Pike Lancaster, OH 43130.
