Eugene “Gene” Kenney, 91, of Pataskala, formerly of Buckeye Lake, passed away on Friday, May 27th, 2016, at Tuscany Gardens.
Gene was a 1942 graduate of South High School in Columbus. He served during WWII in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. New York BB-34. He worked for the Columbus Bank Note Company and retired from the Columbus Dispatch. Gene was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Thornville, the Baltimore V.F.W. Post 3761, Baltimore Lodge #475 - F&AM, Buckeye Lake Yacht Club, Buckeye Lake Historical Society, and the Buckeye Lake Chamber of Commerce. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed yearly fishing trips to Canada with his family.
Gene is survived by his children, Thomas Lee (Terry) Kenney of Brisbane, Australia, Nancy (Bill) Gruezke of Lancaster, Steve (Bev) Kenney of Baltimore, and Connie (Kevin) Walsh of Baltimore; grandchildren, Marc, Paula, Nate, Erin, Taylor, Rian, Kaleigh, Kathleen, and Kyle; 11 great grandchildren; and brother, Don (Betty) Kenney of Florida.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Kenney; parents, Merl and Flo Kenney; and siblings, Pauline Taylor, Phyllis Snider, Jerry Kenney, and Alice Merz.
Funeral service for Gene will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Trinity United Church of Christ, 20 W South St, Thornville, OH 43076 with Pastor Leslie Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Lutheran Reformed Cemetery, Thornville. Friends may visit at the church from12:30 to 2:00 PM Tuesday. Arrangements through the Johnson-Smith Funeral Home, Baltimore.
