Etna Puryear Saunders Puryear, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, passed unexpectedly on April 6, 2024, at Licking Memorial Hospital. She was born on July 2, 1955, in Newark, OH.
Etna's vibrant spirit and love for life touched everyone around her. She will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family and friends, as well as her passion for singing. Her melodic voice could captivate an audience for hours, bringing joy to all who were lucky enough to listen.
Among Etna's proudest accomplishments was instilling a spirit of competitiveness in her son Kwesi, a trait that has guided him through various challenges in life. She adored her family and was always willing to go above and beyond for them.
In her leisure time, Etna found joy in supporting her favorite team, the Green Bay Packers. Her enthusiasm for sports was just one aspect of her dynamic personality. She had a fondness for shopping and finding the best deals, adding fun and excitement to everyday activities.
Etna is survived by her loving son Sulimon Kwesi Saunders, daughter Afrique Peters, grandchildren Diamond, Daija, Denaya, and Dra'Mae, great-grandchildren Harmony, Jiah, and Kyng. She is also survived by siblings Sherman (Mona) Puryear, Curtis (Virginia) Puryear,
Margaret Crumpton, Ralph Puryear, Karen (Donnie) Bowen, and Greg Williams, along with several nieces and nephews. Additionally cherished are three special nieces Stacy, Trilla and Calista. Etna leaves behind a multitude of extended family members who will deeply miss her presence.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Auburn Puryear Sr. and Ida Belle Frye Puryear, brother-in-law, Roosevelt "Squeaky" Crumpton, and nephew, Andre.
Etna's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all who were blessed to have crossed paths with this remarkable woman.
A 1:30PM graveside service on Wednesday May 1st will take place at the Evans Farm. Family and friends may call from 11:30AM until the time of service on Wednesday. Caring Cremation will take place following the service.
