Ernest “Ernie” David Lukens 83 of Lancaster, Ohio passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Fairfield Medical Center. He was born on August 16, 1932 in Jewett, Ohio to the late Ernest and Lina Lukens. He was a US Army veteran and a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
He was a retired school teacher for the Lancaster High School, a Lancaster High School football coach and was an official for track and basketball games. Ernie was also active in the Boy Scouts.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church on Pleasantville Rd. and Jewett Masonic Lodge.
Ernie is survived by his son, Mark Lukens of Columbus, Ohio; daughter, Lori A. Lukens of Jackson, Ohio; three grandchildren, Jason Poling, Beth (Paul) Poling Butcher and Daniel Poling II; four great-grandchildren, Gracie Mae Poling, Paul David Butcher, Lela Jean Butcher, and Angel Marie Poling; sister-in-law, Maxine Lukens of North Canton, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Flora Mae Waller Lukens of 56 years, parents, brother, James Lukens and two sisters, Marilyn Beall and Bee Dallas.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 405 N COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130 with Dr. John Beckett officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may visit Saturday from 11-1 p.m. at the funeral home.
