Erma Jane Gobert, 102, of Millersport, passed away peacefully at Chapel Grove Inn, Heath, Oh. Erma was born July 10, 1915 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Arlie and Margery Parrish-Spitler.
She graduated from Millersport High School and was the Valedictorian and last surviving member of the class of 1933. She married her high school sweetheart, Harold Gobert, May 17, 1936. Erma was a member of Millersport United Methodist Church, Monticello Mother’s Club, Millersport Senior Citizens, and for many years the 20th Century Club. She was also a past secretary for the Fletcher Chapel Cemetery Board.
For many years Harold and Erma enjoyed fishing trips to Michigan and Canada with family and friends. She was known for her pies and spent many years caring for family members. Erma enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s sporting events, watching the Ohio State Buckeyes, and beating her opponents at Euchre.
Erma is survived by her son, Ronald (Martha) Gobert of Thornville; daughters, Norma (Ralph) Wagner of Thornville, and Wanda (Mike) Thomas of Baltimore; grandchildren, Todd (Terri) Gobert, Trent (Marci) Gobert, Carrie (Jim) Baranich, Kevin (Susan) Wagner, Kelly (Missie) Wagner, Cammie (Jeff) Edwards, Jason (Rachel) Thomas, Justin Thomas, and Janae (Shawn) Johnston; great grandchildren, Tiffany Bonkowski, Emma and Grant Gobert, Audra (Jeff) Cannon, Clay Edwards, Lauren and Jillian Wagner, Christopher Douglas, Emilee Wagner, Georgia Tucker, Mimi and Tessa Thomas, and Trey and Ty Johnston; great great grandchildren, Claire and Tristan Cannon, and Kendyl Bonkowski; brothers, Robert Spitler of Coshocton, James Spitler of Newark, and Fred Spitler of Prescott Valley, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Spitler; sister, Juanita Cooperrider; niece Sondra Whitt; and nephew, Craig Cooperrider.
We would like to thank all caregivers who took care of Erma at her home, and all her caregivers at Chapel Grove Inn. A special thank you to Generation Hospice who has helped with Erma’s care for several years.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Millersport United Methodist Church with pastor Jerry Wiles officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4-8 PM at the JOHNSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Baltimore, and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Millersport United Methodist Church 2310 Refugee St, Millersport, Oh, 43046, or to Generation Hospice 1435 A, West Main St., Newark, Oh, 43055.
