Emma Jean Ray, 85 of Columbus , formerly of Lancaster died Friday, February 22, 2013
at the Kobacker House in Columbus. Jean was known as the Cookie Lady and was born in Perry County
to the late William and Edna McClanahan Hummel. She attended Somerset Elementary School, later
moving to Hocking County and graduating from Logan High School in 1945. She was a member of
Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hide- away-Hills and was a member of Bremen, Sugar Grove, Pickerington,
and Olivedale Senior Citizens Clubs.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Martha Ray of Columbus; many nieces and nephews. In addition to
her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Berton Bert Ray and brother, Charles
Hummel.
Funeral service will be Saturday, March 2, 2013 in the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 405 N.
Columbus St., Lancaster OH 43130, at 11:00 am, with Pastor Heinz Raidell officiating. Burial will follow
at St. Matthews Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call Friday 2-4 and 6-8 pm and one hour prior to the
service on Saturday.
