Elwood Woodie R. Phillips Jr. 81, of Pleasantville, Ohio passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Fairfield Medical Center. Woodie was born December. 5, 1932, in Baltimore, Ohio the son of the late Elwood Sr. and Inez Phillips.
Woodie graduated from Liberty Union High School in 1950. He married Nancy E. Phillips and they have lived in Pleasantville, Oh for nearly 40 years.
Woodie served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He owned and operated Phillips Electric Inc. He was an electrical contractor for fifty years. Woodies passion was singing and performing. He was the founder and lead singer of the Woodie Phillips Show and also The Log Train Band.
He was a member of the Rushville Lions Club, Baltimore VFW Post 3761 and the Lancaster AMVETS.
Woodie is survived by his wife, Nancy E. Phillips; son, Michael R. (Michele) Phillips of Pleasantville, Ohio; daughters, Rhonda R. Phillips of Baltimore, Ohio and Resha (Daniel) Paumier of Carroll, Ohio; step-son, Richard Blauser of Baltimore, Ohio; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and brother, David (Peggy) Phillips of Lexington, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. in the JOHNSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL AND CREMATORY, 207 S. MAIN ST., BALTIMORE, OHIO 43105 with Pastor Bill Hargett officiating. Caring Cremation® to follow the service. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Baltimore, Ohio at a later date. Friends may visit Tuesday from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the South East Ohio Sight Center, 358 Lincoln Avenue Unit A, Lancaster, OH 43130.
