Edward V. Kaluzne, Sr., 94, Carroll, Ohio passed away Monday, October 9, 2017 at Carroll Place Assisted Living.
He was a former resident of Akron, Ohio and Sharon, Pennsylvania. He was born on July 15, 1923 to Joseph and Mary Lepeta Kaluzne of Sharon, Pennsylvania. Edward graduated May, 1943 from Hickory Township High School, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. He volunteered in the Army 1943. Edward served in WWII Army Air Corps as Staff Sergeant and flew many missions over Tokyo. In April 1945, he was granted the Air Medal, Oak Leaf Cluster award for his Squadron which was the 458th Bombardment Sq., 330th Bomb Group as a gunner (and mechanic). He received an Honorable Discharge on November 25th, 1945.
Edward retired from RCA as a repair technician and received his 25 year service award certificate.
He is survived by his sons, Edward V. (Kathy) Kaluzne, Jr. of Baltimore, Ohio, Ronald P. (Debra) Kaluzne of Mogadore, Ohio; daughter, Jackie (Marvin) Byard of Surprise, Arizona; many grandchildren and great grandchildren and sister, Elsa McGarry of Sherman Oaks, California.
Edward was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy E (Silvy) Kaluzne, and 10 of his siblings.
Dad loved to golf, listen to polka music and working in his yard. He will truly be missed by his family.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the JOHNSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 207 S. MAIN ST., BALTIMORE, OHIO 43105 with Chaplain Tom Whiteman officiating. Burial will follow at Union Evangelical Cemetery with Wright Patterson Air Force Honor Guard and Millersport American Legion Post conducting military rites at the cemetery. Friends may visit Saturday from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home.
