Earse Mauler, Jr

Earse Mauler, Jr., beloved husband of Esther for nearly 68 years, father of Anita (Hussein) Albaghli and Joyce (John) Michael, grandfather of Walker Albaghli, and brother of Linda and Jerry died on September 15, 2016 following an on-going series of illnesses.

Earse was born on January 20, 1929 in Lancaster Ohio, and early in life, showed remarkable talents in the areas of music and writing. He graduated from Amanda High School in 1946, and began his higher education at Asbury College before receiving a BA from Ohio University in 1949. He started his seminary education at Capital University in Bexley, before graduating from Oberlin Seminary in 1952.

As a member of the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church for 43 years, Earse served as the pastor at Gibisonville (1947), Asbury (1949), South Zanesville (1957), Thornville (1963), Crooksville (1966), Belpre (1974), and John Stewart (1983). Following his retirement in 1993, he was the chaplain at the Otterbein Home in Cridersville for several years, and when that task was completed, he edited several of his daughter Joyce’s book-length translations. In his later years, Earse also enjoyed caring for his yard, playing, the piano, and writing occasional poetic reflections through which his superior intellect, theological insight, and gentle spirit continued to shine. Now, Earse’s special ways will live in our midst wherever love and harmony prevail.

Calling hours will take place on Monday, September 19 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home in Lancaster, Ohio. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20 at the same location.

Donations in Earse’s honor may be made to the Minister’s Retirement Fund of the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church.
