Dorothy Wharton

Dorothy Jean Wharton, 92, of Lancaster, Ohio passed away Saturday, April 14, 2018, at her home. Dorothy was born November 8, 1925, the only child of Mabel (Adams) and Clarence “Doc” Daft of West Rushville, Ohio. She graduated from Rushville Union School and was a valedictorian. On April 28, 1943, she married William Wharton from Colfax, Ohio.

After graduation she worked in the payroll department in the office of Ray-O-Vac until the end of World War II. In 1946 she went to work in the office of The Irving Drew Corporation and was Assistant to the Vice President when she retired in March 1985 after almost 40 years of service.

Bill and Dorothy moved to Lancaster in 1951. Dorothy has been a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1952. She is a member of Olivedale and a former member of the Rushville Lioness Club.

Her parents predeceased her, Clarence in 1974 and Mabel in 1981. In May 2010, she lost Bill, her beloved husband of 65 years.

She is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Dorothy has been blessed with many dear relatives and friends.

Funeral service for Dorothy will be held at 11:30 AM Thursday at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Lancaster with Reverend Cheryl Foulk officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends may visit from 10:30 to 11:30 AM Thursday at the funeral home.
