Dorothy J. Findley, of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away on October 27, 2017 at the Pickering House. She was born January 28, 1937 to the late Leo and Helen Carpenter.
She is survived by her husband, Wilmer (Bud) Findley, whom she married December 2, 1952; two sons, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Findley, and Todd Findley; brothers, John Carpenter, and Herb (Ceil) Carpenter; sisters, Diane (Tom) Shick and Carolyn Lockhart; four grandchildren, Amanda Findley, Jenna (Findley) Wray, Justin and Danae Findley; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Ronnie A. Findley; and brothers, Eugene, Sherman, Robert, Richard, and Michael Carpenter; sisters, Helen Carothers, Katherine Richards, and Judy Snoke.
She was a self-taught seamstress having made bridal and bridesmaid gowns, doll clothes, and bicentennial dresses for the 1776-1976 Bicentennial celebration. She was an avid homemaker, award-winning baker, and enjoyed watching her three sons at their athletic events. Dorothy was also Booster Club supporter, a den mother, and drove a Lancaster City school bus, along with various other jobs over the years.
Arrangements are being handled by Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, 405 N. Columbus St., Lancaster, OH 43130. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 2-4 pm, and 6-8 pm at the funeral home. The family will hold a private burial service at a later date.
Donations may be made in Dorothy’s name to any charity of choice.
The family would like to especially thank Diane Shick for all her efforts and support, in order to improve Dorothy’s health and comfort.
