Donald T. Boyd 89 of Pickerington, Ohio a servant of God, a follower of Jesus passed away Friday, March 10, 2017 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital.
He was born on August 7, 1927 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan to the late John S. and M. Evelyn Stephany Boyd. He was a World War II US Army Air Corps. veteran, where he received the World War II Victory Medal and US Army of Occupation of Japan Medal.
Donald always was proud to say that he was a social worker, where he worked at Children’s Hospital, Lutheran Social Services (Former Executive Director), various nursing homes, AOPHA and NASW. He also taught social work at Capital University.
He was a charter member and a past Elder of Prince of Peace Presbyterian Church in Pickerington, Ohio, charter member of National Association of Social Workers, Pickerington Senior Citizens, American Legion Post 283, Kiwanis Clubs in Columbus and Pickerington, Ohio. Donald was awarded various awards which were NASW Lifetime Achievement, COAAA, Senior Hall of Fame, Kiwanis Club of Columbus Achievement Award, Sertoma Service to Mankind Award, Jefferson Award and Pickerington Public Library Award.
Donald is survived by his wife of 65 years, Norma J. Boyd; two daughters, Kathleen Anne (Donald C.) Bukey of Baltimore, Ohio and Patricia Kaye (Timothy S.) Leu of Lancaster, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Bukey, Kristin (Brandon) Curry, Justin Bukey, Elizabeth (Michael) Love, Jonathan Bukey, Adam (Jessica) Leu and Aaron (Tricia) Leu; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Faye Ballmer of Gahanna, Ohio and a niece, Susan Ballmer of Gahanna, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother George Boyd.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Prince of Peace Presbyterian Church, 895 Old Diley Rd., Pickerington, Ohio 43147 with Rev. Desiree M. Youngblood officiating. Burial will follow in Carroll Cemetery. Friends may visit Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the JOHNSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 207 S. MAIN ST., BALTIMORE, OHIO 43105 and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Memorial gifts may be given to The Ohio State University, College of Social Work, 1947 College Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43210 or the Prince of Peace Presbyterian Church Benevolence Fund in his memory.
