Raab
Doid K. Raab 89 of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away Monday, January 31, 2011 at Homestead Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Born on February 19, 1921 in Fairfield County to the late Enno and Ethel King Raab. He was a graduate of Rushville Union High School, attended Huntington College, Indiana two years and graduated from Muskingum College in 1947.
He enlisted in the US Army Air Corp. in 1942, flying missions as a pilot on a B-24. His crew flew over Vienna, Austria, Northern Italy and Yugoslavia. He was missing in action for 28 days in Yugoslavia. He and three crew members returned to Yugoslavia 40 years later for a wonderful reunion.
He was a life member and past elder of Emanuel Lutheran Church, life member and trustee of American Legion Post 20, past member of Pleasant Township Zoning Board, life member of Ohio education Association and Ohio Retired Teachers, and Reunion Director of the 450th Bomb Group association for 15 years.
Doid was a Fairfield County school teacher, having taught at Somerset, Millersport, and 25 years at Bremen and Fairfield Union Junior High. He was known for carrying a meter stick at school. He was the happiest while working the family farm.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Alice Courtright Raab; sons, Dr. E. John (Mary) Raab of Waynesville, Ohio, Tom (Anne) Raab of South Boston, Virginia, Keith Raab of Lancaster, Ohio and daughter, Nancy (Steve) Stahley of Lancaster, Ohio; grandchildren, Lindsey Raab of Cleveland, Ohio, Rachel (Jake) Trotter of Oklahoma, Scott and Rebecca Raab of Virginia, Nathan and Brooke Stahley of Lancaster, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy (Jack) Hollerbaugh.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130 with Rev. Mark Raddatz officiating. Burial to follow in Grandview Cemetery, Bremen with the American Legion Post 20 conducting military rites at the cemetery. Friends may visit Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
