Dennis B. Sweeney, 71 of Lancaster, Ohio formerly of Hide-A-Way Hills passed away on Monday, January 20, 2025 at his residence. He was born on August 15, 1953 in Columbus, Ohio to the late James “Ike” and Evelyn Sweeney. He was a wrestler at Wherly High School.
He was a Vietnam veteran serving in the US Army as a tank mechanic. Dennis was a retired machinist for Rockwell International Corp. with 20 years of service. There he worked on producing the B1 Bomber.
Dennis was a member of the U.A.W., Amvets, enjoyed target shooting, participated in the Honor Flight and was a former Range Officer for Hide-A-Way Hills.
He is survived by his grandchildren, Logan James Sweeney, Skylar Thomas Sweeney and Cali Brie Sweeney; brothers, James Sweeney and Michael (Barbara) Sweeney all of Columbus and Tim Sweeney of Galloway; sister, Mary (Karl) Peck of Baltimore; special nephew, Ken Sweeney of Lancaster and additional nieces and nephews and good friends, Cliff E. Miller of Lancaster and John Purdy of Columbus.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Patricia Metzger and brother, Charles Edward Sweeney.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Lockbourne, Ohio. Friends may visit Wednesday from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, LANCASTER, OHIO 43130.
