Danny H. Shirey

Danny H. Shirey, 76, died May 20, 2022 at the Pickering House in Lancaster, Ohio.

He was born August 4, 1945, to William H. and Mary Madalyn (Whitacre) Shirey. Danny grew up in Columbus, but moved to Hocking County in 1970. He owned and operated a successful flooring business in Lancaster throughout the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Barrel racing was a huge part of his life, traveling all over the United States just to enter the next race. Danny also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, traveling to 49 states and even making his way to Alaska. He was an accomplished carpenter and also enjoyed hunting whenever he got the chance. After his retirement he moved to Texas, and eventually made his way to Costa Rica where he loved to fish on his boat in the Pacific Ocean. Danny lived a very full life and will be greatly missed.

Danny is survived by his wife Maria “Marty” (Delgado) Shirey; children DeAnna L. Holmes, Danny A. (Cindy) Shirey, William H. (Leslie) Shirey, and Bradley H. (Jenna) Shirey; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and his brother Jack Harper.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and sisters Mary Jo Webb and Jenni Russell.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday May 24, 2022 at the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, 405 N. Columbus St., Lancaster, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
