MATHENY
Daniel J Matheny, age 68, died peacefully at home in the Hocking Hills on October 28, 2011.
Dan was born on September 23, 1943 in Logan, Ohio to the late Dan and June Matheny. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Randy.
Dan graduated from Logan High School, received his degree in Sociology from Ohio University and his masters degree in Social Work from the Ohio State University.
His unwavering concern for the disadvantaged led to a career in child welfare at Franklin County Children Services and the House of New Hope and in mental health at North Central, Netcare, and New Horizons.
After retiring six years ago, Dan and his wife, Patsy, moved from Columbus to the beautiful Hocking Hills area. In retirement, Dan served as a board member of the Hide-A-Hills Club and continued his love of reading, cooking, traveling and following sports.
In addition to his wife, Dan is survived by his treasured children Michael Matheny, Krista (Lee) Stradley and Weston Matheny and his grandsons, Logan and Travis Stradley.
Dan will be greatly missed as a dearly loved husband, father, Gramps and as a friend for his calm, no nonsense manner and gift for living in the present.
His care team at the OSU James Cancer Hospital for two years, Amir Mortezavi, MD, Kamil Pohar, MD, Susan Vladick, CNP, and Dawn Morrow, RN, exemplified a quality of care and compassion that is a model for all healthcare providers. Thank you.
Gifts, in honor of Dan, to the FairHoPe Hospice at 282 Sells Road, Lancaster, Ohio 43130, would support other patients in receiving the wonderful care that Dan received.
Caring Cremation has taken place through the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME. Online condolences can be made at www.funeralhome.com
