Daniel Bowlby

Daniel Lloyd Bowlby 81 of Lancaster, Ohio died Wednesday, November 14, 2016 at Hopewell House, Chillicothe VA Hospital. He was the son of the late Melvin L. and Anna E. Bowlby.

He was a Lancaster High School graduate, class of 1953 and served in the US Army. During his time in the service, he worked in the US Army Post Office in Tokyo, Japan.

Daniel worked as a letter carrier in Lancaster for 30 years and retired in 1986. He also was the acting Post Master in Pleasantville in the 1970’s.

He was a former member of the Sixth Avenue United Methodist Church and Maple Street United Methodist Church, President of Cedar Heights PTO in the 1970’s, the Class of 1953 Men’s Luncheons, Branch 340 of the Lancaster Post Office, D.A.V., loved boating and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia (Parrish); son, Mike (Jamie I.) Bowlby of Millersport, Ohio and grandchildren, Regan Bowlby and Owen Bowlby.

Daniel was preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy L. Bowlby 1986 and parents.

Funeral service will be held Monday, December 19, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130 with Rev. Phyllis Fetzer officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Rose Cemetery with the Lancaster Veterans Burial Detail conducting military rites at the cemetery. Friends may visit Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home.
