Connie Amrine Sims, age 96, died August 15, 2015. She was born October 5, 1918 in London, OH, the youngest of six children of the late William Frederick Amrine and Bertha Cooper Amrine. She earned a degree in Home Economics from The Ohio State University in 1941. Connie was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority at Ohio State. After college, Connie taught school in Grove City, OH for one year. In 1942 Connie was married to Jacob Jake Barr Sims at the London Prison Farm where her father was the warden. Jake was a veterinary doctor and served as a Major in the U.S. Army. When they were first married they lived in an apartment on Town Street in Columbus, OH near the Amory. In 1943, Connie and Jake moved to Lancaster, OH where Jake started his veterinary practice with his father.
Connie loved Lancaster, and she was active in her community. Connie was a Founding member of Twig #2 and she enjoyed working at the Bargain Boutique, Froeble Club, Altar Guild of the First United Methodist Church, Meals on Wheels, Bridge Club, Canasta Club, Red Cross, Parent League, and as 1956 Chair of the Candlelight Ball, a Boy Scout Den Mother, a docent at the Georgian, with the Fairfield Heritage Association, and as a docent at the Sherman House for the 5th grade program Campfire to Courthouse. In later years, she particularly enjoyed preparing meals for the Wednesday night church dinners and helping Marty Cyrus. Connie taught Home Economics at Lancaster High School during 1967-1969. Connie was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Connie is preceded in death by her husband Jake; great grandson, Reis Sims; sisters, Alice Amrine, Ruth Amrine, Margaret McKenzie, and Jane Riddle; and brother, Bob Amrine.
She is survived by her three children, Steve (Judy), Susie Sims, Margaret (Jim) Coons; seven grandchildren, Todd (Tracy) Sims, Jeff (Cheong ah) Sims, Mary (Chris) Fauth, Molly Maxfield, and Sally, Katie, and Charlie Coons; and five great-grandchildren, Jason Sims, Daniel Sims, Jonny Sims, Max Fauth, and Laine Fauth.
A service will take place at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, August 18th, at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, officiated by Rev. Cheryl Foulk. Burial will follow the service at Maple Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 Pm until 8PM and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Connies name to the First United Methodist Church, 163 E. Wheeling St., Lancaster, OH 43130.
