Charles “Tim” Stoughton, 72 of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2021 at the Pickering House after almost three years of battling leukemia. He was born in the Lancaster Hospital on August 15, 1948 and began his life on a farm on Millersport Road in Fairfield County. His family, including his older brother Terry, later moved to Rockbridge, Ohio where Tim carried two paper routes, helped his father at Stoughton’s Garage, rode his bike, played with his pets, - a dog and a rooster - and generally lived the life of a happy child growing up in the 1950s. After he finished 8th grade in Rockbridge, he went on to complete his secondary education at Berne Union Schools in Sugar Grove, Ohio. Upon graduation, Tim chose to continue his education at Andrews Barber College in Columbus, Ohio.
As the Vietnam War was in full swing, he joined the US Navy and served his country from 1968-1972 on the USS Forrestal, an aircraft carrier. As part of the flight deck crew, Tim’s job was that of a “Yellow Shirt”.
During his time in the US Navy, he married Joye Campbell in 1969. Together they had two children. They later divorced in 1989.
After he was honorably discharged from the US Navy, Tim worked at the Plaza Barber Shop from 1972-1979. In 1979, Tim decided to change careers and became a trucker. He drove truck from 1979-2014 with the last 27 years being with HMH Trucking in Baltimore, Ohio.
In his spare time, Tim enjoyed tinkering with and cruising in his 1956 Pontiac. That car turned many heads! He was a member of the American Legion Post #11.
In 1991, Tim married Susan Biggs whom he had met at his friends’ daughter’s wedding. With Susan’s two children, they now became a family of six.
In 2019, Tim discovered, through DNA testing, that he has a sister, Christine Dunn. They quickly became friends, spending a lot of time together. Much to their delight, they found they look a lot alike and have similar mannerisms and temperament.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents Robert Charles and Violet Mae (Stover) Stoughton.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Susan. Also surviving are children Camala Stoughton LaRocco and her children, Sayge, Gianna and Vinny of SC; Shane (Amber) Stoughton and their two sons, Jaxon and Remi of SC; Jason Biggs of Lancaster; Erin Biggs of Lancaster along with her daughter Kaaren Burke of Columbus, Ohio.
