Charles “Chuck” R. Rutter, Jr., 83, of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2017, with his family by his side at Lanfair Center.
Chuck was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ in Lancaster. He was a Lancaster Police Officer for several years and then became a Power Plant Engineer, working at several plants before retiring. Chuck enjoyed writing and was a known and published poet. He had an great sense of humor and wit that could bring a smile to everyone and he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Clara Rutter; sons, Rick (Mary Ann) Rutter and Vincent (Jeannie) Rutter all of Lancaster; daughters, Mary Lisa (Karl) Stratton and Angela (Tom) Pride all of Lancaster; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Carl Rutter of Zanesville; sisters, Anna (Louie) Hill of Zanesville, Emma (Robert) Hills of Michigan, and Helen Lucas of Zanesville; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Bernice Rutter, Sr.; his grandfather who raised Chuck, William Roscoe Evans; sister, Mary Hale; and brother, Leonard Rutter.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday at the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, Lancaster with Pastor Gary Taylor officiating. Family and friends may visit from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Caring Cremation will follow the services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Chuck to FairHoPe Hospice / Pickering House, 282 Sells Rd, Lancaster, Ohio 43130.
