Charles Reber

Charles A. Reber, 91 , of Lancaster , passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2011.

Charles was born in Sugar Grove and graduated from Berne Union High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society. He was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church. Charles loved his family, flying, and his garden as well as feeding the birds and squirrels. Charles served as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army Air Corps, where he was flight instructor. After the military, he was a flight instructor at the Perry County Airport in New Lexington. He worked for 20 years with North American Aviation as a supervisor and in flight test engineering, working on development of many US Navy aircraft. He retired from the State of Ohio, Department of Transportation – Relocation and Appraisals Section.

Charles is survived by his daughter, Valerie Irion Sewall; granddaughter, Elizabeth (Rick) Whitington; step grandsons, Brian Sewall and David Sewall; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Weidner Baumgardner; special friends, Gina Morris, Jess and Michelle McKee; and many wonderful neighbors.

Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Julia A. Reber; parents, Jacob and Goldie Reber; brothers, Newton Reber and Wilbur Reber; son-in-law, Paul J. Sewall; and mother-in-law, Ruth Weidner.

Following Charles’ wishes, his body has been donated to The Ohio State University to further medical studies.

Graveside services will take place at a later date in Maple Grove Cemetery.

To this loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, and neighbor - he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
