Carl Heister of Canal Winchester, Ohio passed away January 14, 2022. He succumbed to Parkinson’s Disease in spite of massive doses of chocolate, peanuts, and popcorn.
He was the former president of the Equitable Federal, an 800-million-dollar savings and loan headquartered in Lancaster, Ohio. He was a businessman, an entrepreneur, a volunteer extraordinaire, and a man with many hobbies and interests well documented in files, file cabinets and boxes in his basement.
After the Equitable was sold, Carl started Heister Enterprises, followed by Heister Financial Services. He became a stock broker for Merrill Lynch, Co-Owner of Super Z 103 Radio Station, a realtor, a R.E broker and Co-Owner of Supreme Realty, and a teacher for Hondros College and Hocking College.
He served on many boards: President and Trustee of Blue Cross of Central Ohio, Director of FMC Hospital for 17 years, Metropolitan Housing Authority, countless committees for State Savings and Loans, President of Lancaster Chamber of Commerce, President of United Way, Secretary of Super Z 103, President of Lancaster Board of Realtors, Director at Wagnall’s Memorial, to name a few.
Carl was an Elk, a Kiwanian, a Lion and past President of Sherman Rotary and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a Lt. in the United States Air Force.
His hobbies were varied. He did a stint for WLGN in Logan as Disc Jockey “Mike Andrews”. He did color and stats with Dick Schorr for local football teams for WLOH, eventually doing play by play for Fisher Catholic. He did endurance motorcycling racing on his Yamaha bikes. He rode his Harley Davidson to Daytona, the Smokey Mountains and other points of interest, in the sun, rain, wind and snow, often with one of his sons or his wife hanging on for dear life. He played softball. He did parachute jumping. He helped his brother Noel farm, but his best and most loved hobby was mowing grass on his big orange Kubota Tractor.
Carl was a graduate of The Ohio State University, BS; Kennedy Western University, MS; Hondros College, Famous School of Broadcasters, and countless savings and loans academies.
Carl is survived by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis; sons, Andrew, John and Dr. Timothy Timmons (Natali). Daughter Sharene Timmons (Bruce Biggi). 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren; brothers, Noel (Sandra), Mark (Jackie) and sister, Mary. 6 brothers and sisters in law, Dr Gene Clifton (Carolyn), Yvonne Corzilius (David), Sally Giovinazzo (Dr. Anthony), Carolyn Goodman (Ted), Marilyn Davis (Dr. John), and William Clifton (Nancy)
Most mortals ascent to heaven on the wings of angels, but we are pretty sure Carl arrived on his big orange Kubota Tractor.
