Carl Edward Friend, 86, of Lancaster, passed away on Tuesday April 21, 2015 at the Pickering House.
Carl was born on February 17, 1929 to the late, Ferd W. and Fannie Mae (Valentine) Friend in Lancaster.
Carl was retired from the Lancaster City School Systems. He earned his Master Gardener Certification from Dawes Arboretum. He was a docent for the Ohio Village. People knew him as the corn man on Coonpath Rd.
Carl is survived by son, Mark E. Friend (Nikki) of Lancaster; daughters, Anita (David) Hughes of Phoenix, Arizona and Rebecca (Lawrence) Alspaugh of Lancaster; and longtime companion, Emmajean Curtice.
Carl is also survived by five grandchildren, Eric Alspaugh, Heather Alspaugh, Jennifer Friend, Kelsey Hughes and Sandi Hughes; and step-grandchild, Paul Hughes .
Carl was preceded in death by wife, of fifty four years, Bonnie L. (Leohner) Friend; parents, Ferd and Fannie (Valentine) Friend; brothers, Lewis, Harold, Donald and sister, Mary Ellen Friend.
Carl was such a gentle man as well as a gentleman. He will be missed by his many friends and family members.
A celebration of Carls life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church at 1:30 PM Friday the 24th, with Rev. Matthew Richardson officiating. Calling hours will be observed preceding the service at the church, 2 hours prior to the service starting at 11:30AM Friday. Interment will follow the service at Forest Rose Cemetery.

Special appreciation is expressed to Primrose Retirement Center, Lan-fair Rehabilitation Center, Fairfield Medical Center staff, and to Dr. Scott Baker. Many cared for our father in his journey and we express our appreciation to all. A special thanks to The Pickering House whose care made the final journey comforting.
