Bridget Ellen Halstead, age 95, of Newark, previously of Baltimore, passed away October 26th, 2014 at the Sterling House in Newark. She was born on Feb. 9th, 1919 in Crickmer, WV, to her late parents, Wilburn and Johanna Griffin Vandal. She enjoyed making pillows for her family and was an amazing mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be missed deeply.
Bridget is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Ann (Leslie Jr.) Robinson of Adams, KY, Beatrice Johanna Messer of Newark, and Nancy Louise Halstead of Columbus; sons, Lionel M. (WolSun) Halstead Jr. of Surprise, AZ, and Donald Lee (Cathy) Halstead of Gahanna; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Reva Vandall of Crickmer,WV; cousin and dear friend, Maggie McClung; and 8 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lionel M. Halstead Sr.; parents; two brothers, Daniel Vandal and James (Virginia) Vandal; and one nephew.
The family would like to give a special thanks to all the caring staff at Sterling House.
A funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 6:30 PM at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, in Lancaster, officiated by Chaplain Irene Scaramazza and Pastor Dennis Barnhart. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 5PM until the time of service at the funeral home. A graveside service will take place at Wallace Cemetery in Clintonville, WV on Thursday at 2:30PM.
