Billie Faye Baker Pursley died November 23rd, 2013 at Pickering House in Lancaster, Ohio, just a month prior to her 90th birthday. She was born in Celina, Texas on December 20th, 1923, and grew up in Skiatook, Oklahoma, one of seven daughters. During the war, she worked in the defense industry making bombers, and later aviation fuel. After the war, she married her beloved George and they lived together in Parker, Indiana, where she worked in healthcare and retail sales, and was active in community affairs, including Parker United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, and school activities. Upon retirement in 1991, she and George moved to Lancaster, Ohio to be near family, where they were active in the lives of children and grandchildren, and attended St. John's Episcopal Church.
She is survived by sisters Tommie Inman of Culpeper, Virginia, Dorothy Russell, Patsy (Clarence) Pippin, and Barbara (Vernon) Fuller of Skiatook , Oklahoma; son George William (Rebecca) of Lancaster, Ohio, granddaughter Ashley (Matthew) Canter and great grandchildren Margaret, Helen, and George of Newark, Ohio, grandson Tristan of Oxford, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Billie was preceded in death by her husband, George Pursley; parents, Willie and Helen Baker; sisters, Kathryn Rasberry and Peggy Payne; and nearly daughter, Jane Duncan.
Viewing will be at St. John's Episcopal Church Tuesday at 11 AM with funeral to follow at 1PM. Interment will be at Floral Hills. Funeral arrangements will be handled by the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home. The Rev'd. Fr. Bill McCleery will preside. Memorials may be sent to The Parker Indiana United Methodist Church in Parker City, Indiana, or to Fairhope Hospice, in Lancaster, Ohio.
