Betty I. Motsch

April 15, 1935 — November 12, 2024

Lancaster

The angel of our family passed away last evening. Betty I. Motsch, our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, wife, mother-in-law, aunt, grandmother-in-law, sister-in-law, and friend said goodbye peacefully on November 12, 2024, and will be forever missed. She was 89 years young.

Born April, 15, 1935 to Seth and Mildred Sherburn in Bremen, Ohio, she was always smiling, with a pleasant word to share with whomever she was talking with, and she certainly talked with lots of people over her time here. Her gift was in her genuine caring for people; a rarity that asked a person how they were and really listened for, well, how they really were. And by and large, a person walked away feeling better, which made Betty smile even more. She called it ‘a virtuous circle’, and was always thankful for the other’s virtue.

She was a proud homemaker, and loved every minute of it. Her husband of 70 years, Ron, benefitted enormously from all that she did. He survives this moment, but was quick to let her know he’ll be with her again soon.

Betty loved her crafts, her baking and cooking, her music, her writing, and her kids, grandkids, and great grandbaby .. oh, her kids, grandkids and great grandbaby.

A graduate of Lancaster High School class of 1953, she spent time with her classmates frequently until just recently. She said to say hello and “Go Gales” to you all.

In addition to her husband, she leaves behind her two sons and their wives Ron (Marylou) and Randy (Kathy); five grandchildren, Grayson, Maddie, Emily (Andy), Hannah, and Zack; and great grandchild, Wilder, who miss her already.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, November 16th at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 405 N Columbus St., Lancaster, OH 43130. A reception will be held immediately following the funeral at the clubhouse at The Villas at Sherman Bluff. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home, or donations made to Calvary Lutheran Church, where they were members their entire life together. A special thank you to Grand Pines Assisted Living for their wonderful care over Betty’s last years.
