Barbara E. (Sifford) Swartz

Barbara Sifford Swartz of Lancaster, Ohio passed away at Fairfield Medical Center on September 6, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was born June 27, 1937, to Helene and William Sifford of Lancaster, Ohio.

She graduated from Lancaster High School in 1955 where she was involved in many activities including marching band, orchestra, and concert band. She attended college at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, and graduated from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio in 1961. She taught elementary education for 36 years in Bremen, Lancaster, and Tampa, Florida.

Barbara married Norman R. Swartz of Boston, Massachusetts in 1960 at the First United Methodist Church. During her life, she was a Sunday and Bible School teacher, Girl Scout leader, bell choir member, and a member of her Sisters Group at the First United Methodist Church. She was a doting mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Barbara enjoyed summer vacations when her extended family would come to visit her.

Barbara is survived by her sons, David (Susan Sikora) Swartz, Aaron (Jeffrey Burns) Swartz; daughter, Rebecca (Barry) Kaufman; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Norman.

A funeral service will be held Monday, September 11, 2023, at 10:30 AM at First United Methodist Church, 163 Wheeling Street, Lancaster, OH 43130 with Pastor Nikki Baker officiating. Friends and family may visit from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the First United Methodist Church building fund or the Salvation Army.
