Anne Elizabeth McLaughlin, age 93, of Baltimore, Ohio, passed away Sunday, January 9th, 2011, at the Pickering House. She was born to Perry and Anna Baker at Flatwillow, MT on July 19, 1917. She was an active member of the Pickerington Church of Christ until 6 years ago when her health started to significantly decline. She is survived by her daughter, Connie E. Klock and her husband John of Scotch Plains, NJ; sons, Allen J. McLaughlin and his wife, Doris, of Chicopee, MA and John A. McLaughlin and his wife Peggy of Bremen, OH; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Aloysius John McLaughlin; her parents; her sister Mona, and brother, Perry Baker.
She met her husband during the depression when he came west from Ohio as a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps to work in Montana. After they married they lived outside Carey, Ohio, on a farm they bought until World War II struck. Al joined the Navy as a Seabee and she followed him to Newport, Rhode Island where he was stationed until he left for the Pacific theater.
Anne returned to Montana and after the war Al rejoined her there and worked in the Rural Electrification Program. He then worked for the US Air Force. Al and Anne moved with the Air Force to Ramey, Puerto Rico, Westfield, Massachusetts, and Shreveport, Louisiana and finally back to Columbus, Ohio, where Al retired. They always enjoyed traveling, especially to Seabee reunions around the country and yearly treks to the Baker Ranch in Montana. They would always stop and visit their many friends on these trips and especially enjoyed their time with the Jenni cousins in Montana.
A graveside service will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Pataskala on Saturday, January 15th, 2010 at 9:30AM, where Al is interned. A memorial service will follow the graveside at 11AM at the Pickerington Church of Christ, officiated by Minister Matt Thomas. Family and friends may call from 4 until 7PM on Friday evening, January 14, at the JOHNSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME at 207 S. Main St. Baltimore, OH 43105.
