Anne Elizabeth Azbell lost her struggle with cancer on December 2, 2013, at the Pickering House in Lancaster, Ohio. She was 52.
Anne was born in Shelbyville, Indiana to Harold and Gertrude Miller on October 19, 1961. She later moved to Lancaster and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1979. Later that year she married her first love, John (JR) Azbell. They celebrated their thirty-fourth wedding anniversary this past March.
Anne spent most of her adult life as a librarian at the Fairfield County District Library. She worked on the bookmobile and then at the Youth Services Department of the Main Library in Lancaster. Many children, both young and old, will remember Anne for her lively story times and gentle nature.
Following her retirement from the library, Anne volunteered as a park ranger and helped make blankets for the homeless. Despite her illness, Anne kept a positive attitude and an adventurous spirit. Thanks to the generosity of her friends and family, Anne was able to fulfill her lifelong dream of visiting Machu Picchu just months before her death.
Perhaps Annes biggest, and most challenging, accomplishment was raising her five children, Arthur, Joseph, Jason, Eric, and Beth.
Anne was preceded in death by her father and her sister, Dianne Elma. Anne leaves behind her husband; her mother; five children; six grandchildren; and many friends.
Please consider making a donation to the Fairfield County District Library on Annes behalf.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Sugar Grove on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. Body donation to OSU has taken place through the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME.
