What a difference one beautiful life makes!....And so is the legacy of our beloved Ann Carpenter who passed into eternal life on Sunday, December 10, 2017, at the age of 79. Born March 10, 1938 to Rev. James B. and Beatrice M. (Hennemann) Shallow in Royal Oak, Michigan, Ann was the fourth of six children. Graduating in 1956 from Redford High School, her childhood was filled with happy memories of a loving and deeply cherished family.
In 1958, Ann moved to Ohio (although, in her heart, Michigan was still home) to marry the love of her life, Paul Carpenter, who survives her. Ultimately they settled in Lancaster, Ohio, raising their two children, Cindy and Steve, and then happily enlarging their family in 1980 with another much loved son, Bob Miller.
With a head for numbers, Ann held several jobs throughout her working career from an office position at Buckeye Mart, to accounting work at BancOhio, to her most fulfilling employment of 22 years as Pastor’s Secretary for New Life Christian Center. She had a penchant for perfection, was witty and kind, and much admired by her coworkers for her meek, gentle spirit.
Never drawing attention to herself, Ann would quietly bless others with her generosity of time, service, money, home-cooked meals, and cards filled with words of encouragement. She was the most attentive and loving mother and an extreme, doting Grandma, absolutely adored by her six grandkids. She honored her LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ, by her life of integrity, selflessness, and service to those in need of a helping hand or a gentle touch of unconditional love. Surprisingly, there was also a mischievous side to her that would unexpectedly surface from time to time, bringing such laughter into our lives. However, devotion to family was Ann’s utmost priority; how truly blessed we, her family, are!
In addition to her loving husband of 59 years, Paul E. Carpenter, Ann is survived by her children Cynthia (Scott) Weaver of Lancaster, OH, Steven (Sandra) Carpenter of Wuhan, China, and Bob Miller (Kim Ruprecht) of Wadsworth, OH; grandchildren Jason (Andrea), Alex, and Jessica Weaver and Emma, Phoebe, and Nick Carpenter; sisters Norma Gresko, Janet Stirnemann, Carol (Clark) Loy, and Sandra (Dave) Kinney; sister-in-law Ruth Shallow; and many dear nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her only brother, Robert Shallow; and brothers-in-law George Gresko and David Stirnemann.
A celebration of Ann’s life will be held 11 am, Saturday, December 16, 2017, at New Life Christian Center, 2642 Columbus-Lancaster Rd. NW, Lancaster, OH, with Pastor Gary Keller officiating. Friends and family may call this Friday, December 15, 2017, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the church, as well as 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday.
