Andrew Edson Brown, 42,  passed away May 30, 2020 following an extended illness. He was born February 10, 1978 in Escanaba, MI to Charles and Virginia Brown. He leaves behind his parents, wife Katrina Brown, daughter Jenna Brown, son Carter Brown, step-son Ian Barton, step-daughter Izabelle Barton, brother Jeffrey (Madalyn) Brown, sister Rebecca (Mike) Hagely, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his paternal grandparents Ross and Beulah Brown and maternal grandparents Joseph and Ruth Fraker.

Andrew, better known as “Andy”, had a deep passion for music.  He pursued that passion by completing his Bachelor of Music in Education and Master of Music Education degrees at Capital University. He held a Kodaly certificate from the Kodaly institute at Capital University. He also proudly studied internationally at the Hochschule fur Music in Dresden, Germany, and at the Kodaly Institute in Kesckemet, Hungary. He has performed with a number of Choirs throughout his life including: Chapel Choir and Choral Union at Capital University; the Dresden Philharmonic Chamber Choir in Germany; the Lancaster Chorale, Pro- Musica; the Cathedral choir in Columbus, OH; and with  the Columbus Opera Project.

Anyone who knew Andy, knew he wanted to share his passion with others through his teaching. He taught for 20 years; 7 years in Lancaster City Schools and 13 years in Olentangy Local School District, including General Music, Band, Orchestra, Choir, and Strings. He was also the Artistic Director of the Lancaster-Fairfield Youth Choir for 14 years. He had repeatedly been guest director for OMEA, and All County Honor Choirs in Ohio and New York. He also served as President of Tri-City Kodaly Educators from 2009-2011.

Growing up he was an avid Boy Scout and had earned his Mountain Man Status, which was a great honor to him.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday June 4, 2020 at Frank E. Smith Funeral Home. Pastor Larry Brown will be officiating the service. Due to the posing health risks associated with COVID-19, this service is for immediate family only.

In honor of Andrew, an account has been set up at Homeland Credit Union, 25 Consumer Center Dr Chillicothe, OH 45601. The family asks that in lieu of flowers and gifts that monetary donations be made for his infant son, Carter Joseph Brown, to assist with his future education.
