Biography
Amy Beth Thomas, age 47, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully at Heartland of Fairfield Nursing Center on Monday, January 28, 2013. She was born in Lancaster, Ohio to Grace (Raver Thomas) Reid on June 12, 1965.
Born with Spina Bifida, Amy was paralyzed from the waist down, and spent every day of her life in the loving care of her mother, Grace, who passed on away February 21, 2012. The last several years they shared a room at Heartland. Anyone that has met Amy knows that despite her disabilities, she always had a smile on her face and lived every day to its fullest. She loved cross-stitching name tags for everyone she met. She was a huge fan of Mickey Mouse. Amy was also deaf and even though she could not hear the music, over the years she loved to watch Lawrence Welk, Donny and Marie, and the Gaithers. Growing up, Amy loved to go to school and was the first multi-handicapped student to receive an honorary diploma from Lancaster High School in 1987.
Amy is survived by her sister, Nancy (Ted Moberly) Watkins of Fairfield Beach; brothers, Doug (Cheryl) Thomas of Lancaster and Dan (Cristine) Thomas of Carroll; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Grace Reid; step-father, Boid Blue Reid; and special aunt, Dot Gibbys Mother Henderly.
A memorial service will take place at 7:00 PM Thursday at the JOHNSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Baltimore. Family and friends may call two hours prior to the service. Caring Cremation has taken place.
Special thanks go to all of the teachers, aides, nurses, and doctors that made Amys life possible for all of us to share, especially the staff at Valley View Nursing Home, Heartland of Fairfield, and Heartland Hospice.
