Alta Ruth (Lynn) Geiger

January 28, 1936 — May 8, 2023

Sugar Grove

Alta Ruth Geiger passed away on Monday, May 8, 2023 at Altercare Lanfair where she had been a long term resident. Alta is survived by her two daughters, Terri Cly, Lori (Mark) Cramer, very special granddaughters Amy (Steve) Payn, Ann (Josh) Luther, and great grandchildren Bennett and Kate Payn.

Alta was the ninth child born to Samuel and Elsie (Cawthorn) Lynn on January 28, 1936 in Coffee County Tennessee. In 1953, when she was barely 17, Alta traveled across state lines to marry Clyde R. Geiger and they were together for 49 years up until the day Clyde passed away in 2002.

Alta was a military wife, the best mom, and a loving grandmother. For 20 plus years when Clyde was off serving his country, she was always there for her girls and held the family together while we waited for dad’s return. No one could move a household cross country and overseas with two little girls in tow like mom could. Growing up on many Air Force bases, Alta sewed all of our clothes and cooked all of our meals and could make a pizza better than anyone. When dad finally retired, the family made Lancaster Ohio their permanent home base. For the longest time, we girls thought everyone lived this way. Once we girls were out of the house, mom and dad built their retirement home on Pump Station Road where they enjoyed many years together.

Alta is preceded in death by her parents Sam and Elsie, her six big brothers, Luther, Haskell, George, Jack, Paul, Kermit, sisters, Julia and Hattie and her beloved son-in-law, Carl Cly.

In keeping with Alta’s wishes, Caring Cremation® has taken place by the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, LANCASTER, OHIO and there will be no calling hours observed. Alta’s cremains will be buried alongside her husband Clyde at Stukey Cemetery Sugar Grove, Ohio.
