ALPHON GENE PEGG
Baltimore: Alphon Gene Pegg, 79 of Baltimore passed away Monday, March 11, 2013 at his yresidence. Gene was a 2010 Nominee for Hall of Fame Award, Graduated from Minford High School in 1951, after 12 years in the Minford School System. He was known for his mischievous nature. He learned of a government apprenticeship program In Virginia, he successfully passed the entrance exam and was accepted. While in Virginia he met and married his wife of 52 years Betty. After four years of training he acquired a Master Machinist Certification and returned to Ohio. He worked for North American Aviation in the Engineering and Development Division. He was certified as a stock broker and obtained an Ohio Insurance License. In 1965 he became Executive Vice President for Hume Engineering Corporation. During his childhood on Blue Run in Scioto County, he loved hunting and fishing and expeditions in remote areas throughout the United States. These ventures involved four wheel drive off road vehicles. Another of his long standing interests were vintage cars, using this knowledge he became involved in the innovation and improvement of off road vehicles. In 1972 he opened his own company, Trail City, now known as TRAILS WEST,in Pataskala, specializing in four wheel drive vehicles and equipment. He was the worlds largest dealer of International Scout four wheel drive vehicles. In 2006 he built a 32,000 square feet facility which is run by his children. He served on the National Board of Directors for Off Road Vehicle Equipment. He is listed in the Whos Who Registry of Executives, Professional and Entrepreneurs. Gene was semi-retired and lived quietly in a rural area outside Baltimore, Ohio.
Gene is survived by daughter, Kathleen Pegg of Lancaster; sons, Bill Pegg of Pataskala and Gregory (Laura) Pegg of Pickerington; grandchildren, Erika Pegg and Ryan J. Pegg; brothers Robert (Donna) Warren of Canal Winchester and David (Pamela) Pigg of Whitehall; sisters, Dalena Doan of Reynoldsburg and Leah Nowlan of California; several nieces and nephews; fiancé, Mary Lou Crowe of Baltimore. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Vera and his wife Betty.
Funeral service for Gene will be Friday, March 15, 2013 in the JOHNSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 207 S Main St,, Baltimore OH 43105, at 10:30 am with Pastor Rocky Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Rest Cemetery in Reynoldsburg. Friends may call Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
