Alice Herndon

Alice Elizabeth Tobias Herndon, 100 of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and formerly of Lancaster, Ohio died Thursday, December 28, 2017. She was the wife of the late Thomas Willard Herndon.

Alice was born on December 21, 1917 in Lancaster, Ohio, daughter of the late Lloyd D. Tobias and Vera Marie Turner Tobias. Her husband was a civil engineer with the Ohio Department of Highways and her father, John Henry Tobias, father, Lloyd D. Tobias, and uncle, Roy Tobias were owners of Tobias Studio in Lancaster, Ohio. She was an elementary school teacher in the Lancaster Public Schools, East School and later Tallmadge School. Alice was a member of the Maple Street United Methodist Church in Lancaster, Ohio and a 75 year member of the Order of Eastern Star Millersport Chapter. She has been a resident in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina since 2005.

She is survived by two daughters, Dixie Fanning (Wayne) of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina and Cinda Herndon-King (Richard) of Fayetteville, Georgia; grandchildren, Thomas Tobias King of Knoxville, Tennessee and Katharine Rama King of Verona, Wisconsin; nieces and nephews, Lloyd (Fran) Tobias, III, Greg (Donna) Tobias, Jane (Jim) Miller, Jim (Jane Graham) Tobias and Celeste (Brian) Grider.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd D. (Toby) Tobias, Jr. and Jean Tobias.

Funeral service will be held Friday, January 5, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130 with Rev. Phyllis Fetzer officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Rose Cemetery. Friends may visit 1 hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
