Alan “Wimp” Kent Mowery, 74, of Somerset, Ohio passed on Sunday, April 21, 2024.
Alan was born in Lancaster, Ohio to Wendell “Wimp” Freeman Mowery and Joann Mowery in 1949. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1967. Alan then served his country in the U.S. Navy until 1970. A true patriot, Alan was a member of the FOE Lancaster Eagles 2120, Voiture 498 Lancaster, American Legion Post 11 Lancaster and Post 376 Junction City, Buckeye Lake Moose Lodge 243A, and a lifetime member of Amvets Post 51 in Thornville. Alan retired from Anchor Hocking Glass with 36 years of dedicated service.
Alan was a friend to all. He shared a lot of laughter and made many great memories not only with his family, but with his many friends. He loved bowling, golf, poker, softball, the Cincinnati Reds and the Cleveland Browns. He enjoyed working at the U.S.E.P. bingo hall in Reynoldsburg and loved the people very much. He cherished his time at home in Somerset with Melissa and their two cats, Ava and Carly.
Alan is survived by his loving wife Melissa; his mother; his sisters Connie (Randy) Crews of Texas and Brenda (Maureen Steiner) Mowery of Arizona; his stepdaughters Shelley (Aaron) Seavolt and Sarah Perry; his granddaughters Lindsey and Mary; and his great granddaughters Mary and Sally.
Alan is preceded in death by his father, his first wife Barbara, and his daughter Tiffany.
A short graveside service with the Lancaster Burial Detail will be held Friday, May 24, 2024 at 11:00 AM, in Maple Grove Cemetery - Lancaster.
Alan’s celebration of life will take place at the American Legion Post 11, 279 Canal St. Lancaster, OH 43130, immediately following the graveside service. Everyone is welcome. Please wear your favorite Ohio team jersey, T-shirt, hat, etc. to honor Alan. We will provide BBQ meats. Please feel free to bring a side dish or dessert to share.
