Alan M. Hooker went to his heavenly home Friday, September 27, 2013.
He was born May 13, 1950 to the late Ora and Annacetta Hooker in Louisville, Ohio. A 1968 graduate of Louisville High School, he earned his Bachelors in business degree from Cleveland State University and his Master’s in Business Administration from Southern Illinois University. Alan also completed the rigorous curriculum of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking.
Alan’s banking career encompassed a succession of positions in Cleveland and Washington DC, each with increasing responsibilities. He arrived in Lancaster in 1990 to become president of Fairfield National Division of the Park National Bank. In 1998 he became president of The Community Bank, establishing its presence in Fairfield County. After retiring from banking, Alan began a new career in 2008 when he founded Heritage Executive Search Group, an affiliate of Management Recruiters, International.
A committed community volunteer, Alan served as president of the Board of Trustees for the Lancaster-Fairfield County Chamber of Commerce, Lancaster Festival and United Way. He was a board member for Fairfield Medical Center, Community Improvement Corporation, Fairfield County Foundation and Lancaster Chorale. He was a United Way Campaign Chairman and a Paul Harris Fellow in the Lancaster Rotary Club. He also was an avid Cleveland Browns and Indians fan.
Alan is survived by his adoring wife of 18 years, Lisa; daughter Colleen (Joel) Bunker of Annapolis, MD; son Christopher of Chicago, IL; brother Don of North Hollywood, CA; mother-in-law Dolores Dill of Lancaster; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Lori and Andy Pflaum of Worthington, OH and niece, Grace Pflaum; several aunts and cousins; and Abby, his faithful Boston terrier. He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, Dr. Donald S. Dill, and several aunts and uncles.
Calling hours are Monday, September 30, 2013 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130 and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 11 am at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert McDowell officiating. Burial follows at Forest Rose Cemetery.
To help find a cure for bile duct cancer, Alan willingly participated in a clinical trial at The Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the OSU Foundation’s Biliary System Research Fund #312852, Office of Development, P.O. Box 183112, Columbus, Ohio, 43218.
